Diva Dance from “The Fifth Element”

This is my favorite scene from the 1997′s hit “The Fifth Element.” I love the symbolism that this particular aria and its remix create for the movie. For the non-opera buffs, this song is taken from a scene that is probably even more famous than the opera itself. The “Mad Scene” from “Lucia di Lammermoor” by Gaetano Donizetti is famous for both its climactic placement in the opera, as well as the technical difficulty and virtuousity of the aria itself. If you are familiar with the movie, then research the opera scene. Conversely, if you are familiar with the scene, then you should definitely watch the movie.

  1. I’ve seen this clip many times but has yet to watch the movie in totality. Must do that someday.

Beautiful song and voice, nonetheless! Thanks for sharing.

  3. The 5th Element is one of my favorite movies. The vocals for Plavalaguna’s performance scene were amazing! Thanks for the background info on the origins of the aria. I’ll definitely have to check out the opera.
